Love the blog.  As someone who started reading the stuff you were writing at 15, I have a great appreciation of all that is written by M Sneed.  This blog made me laugh, and it sure made me wish I lived close to Culpeper (one p?) so I could visit Knakal’s bakery.  My favorite Saturday morning routine is coffee and yard sales too.  Fun stuff!  Keep up the blogs.

I am really looking forward to reading what’s on your mind, because clearly you have a great appreciation for all things Culpeper. Those little things, like the smell of Knakal’s donuts, are what make Culpeper such a special place. While we are on the subject of the smell of fried dough, let’s talk funnel cakes. Ahh, yes, greasy, fried, coated in sugar, and practically calorie free because you eat them standing up (the 50% off calorie rule applies) and much of the sugar falls harmlessly onto your shirt. Any remaining calories are walked off as you enjoy Culpeper Day, Third Thursdays, the 4th of July celebration, or the Fireman’s Carnival. The smell of funnel cakes means that Culpeper fun in the sun is here again!

Ya’ll keep Mitch away from the muscadine wine up there. He’ll start dancing on tables before you know it.

I guess I’m lucky I get to stay in bed while you go around to all those yard sales (you know, your new hobby)and the 7-11 and Knakal’s because I get hot tea and some of those goodies.

The best pastry at Knakal’s is the eclairs. They remind me of the ones my mother used to by from Rich’s bakery in Atlanta when I was a little girl.

Oh yeah…if you wondered, this is your wife.

Mitch,

I love visiting Knakal’s when I’m in Culpeper and miss making regular trips. The bakery and other restaurants downtown are a huge treat. And yes, I am sure the smell has calories - but it’s totally worth it.
