Backstreet’s Back, ALRIGHT!!!
When I first heard that the Backstreet Boys were going to be playing at Wolftrap, I had two thoughts: the first was “Really? They’ve sunk that far?” Because let’s be honest, Wolftrap is where bands go to die. It’s kind of like Virginia’s version of Vegas that way. My immediate second thought was “I kind of want to go.”
The embarrassment quickly faded as I realized that I was not the only one who was tempted to take in this spectacle. So after getting over our initial embarrassment and some shameful looks and comments from friends, boyfriends, husbands and fellow co-workers, my thirtysomething self and four of my twentysomething friends headed out to Wolftrap last night to take it all in. And as it turns out, we weren’t the only BSB fans in the DC metro area.
The place was packed to the gills. People of all ages (men and women alike) came out of the woodworks to pack the seats and the lawn. And if you are a BSB fan, they didn’t disappoint. Though the boys were obviously a little slower than they used to be and there were way too many costume changes, the show was well done and the music was really, really good. They played all of their good stuff and sprinkled in some new stuff, but it was a good enough mixture that no one seemed to mind the more unfamiliar songs in the set list.
My only complaint – why the Wednesday night??? Don’t you know it’s a school night? Frankly, I’m exhausted.
