DWTS & More Housewives Drama, Business as Usual
So a few weeks ago I blogged about Dancing with the Stars and I never followed-up as promised. So sorry for the lateness on this but here is what it boils down to. I’ve never been a DWTS watcher and I was only interested in watching this season because of some of the semi-celebs. I sat down to watch on premiere night and was completely unaware that the show was 2 HOURS LONG!!! The first hour was somewhat entertaining but I knew I was in trouble when they cut to commercial after every little bitty segment and only 4 people had danced by 9pm. I totally checked out after that ‘cause I was curious but I wasn’t committed enough to stay up past my bedtime. :p
As for the Real Housewives of NYC, this season seems to be entirely about the deterioration of Jill and Bethenny’s relationship. I’m always team Bethenny because I absolutely love her but at the beginning of the season, I’ll admit it, I had some doubts about her. We were only really hearing Jill’s side of the story in the first few episodes and Jill’s side of the story made Bethenny sound really, really bad. Jill said Bethenny never called when Bobby had cancer and that when she spoke with her eventually that Bethenny told her to get a hobby which sounds like something BFrank would say.
Now we’re starting to get BFrank’s side of the story and things are starting to look a lot different. From last night’s episode, we get to witness a phone call between Jill and Bethenny, and in my opinion, Jill came off looking REALLY bad. Bethenny calls to see if she can meet with Jill to discuss how things got so blown out of proportion. Jill obviously has no interest anymore in patching things up and you could pretty much tell that from the start of the conversation. Maybe it would have been different if Jill was home alone but since she had her posse to show off for, I think it made her pull the b*tch card.
First she put Bethenny on speaker phone so that she could be catty with Luann and then she lies about how she’s doing 10 different things and needs to have her hands free. Ummm, hello…you’re on camera and everyone can see you sitting on the couch with the phone in your hand (i.e. you’re lying through your teeth.) Then we hear from Bethenny a little bit about why she never called Bobby that summer. From the conversation, I honestly believe that Bethenny had no idea that Bobby was as sick as he was. She sent him flowers and then followed it up with an e-mail to Jill which Jill ignored so how was she supposed to know. Jill’s rationale on the phone suggests that she thought that when she didn’t respond to the e-mail that Bethenny should have known she was pissed and coming running/groveling to her. I’m not sure that I would have assumed something was wrong from an ignored e-mail and it sounds like Bethenny had an extremely busy summer with her business growing and meeting her now husband. I could see forgetting that she even sent the e-mail and then much later, being like, oh yeah, I never heard back. Especially if she didn’t know how sick Bobby really was. Let’s be honest here, Bethenny is a frank and honest person. She’s a loud mouth and she is openly sarcastic with everyone which doesn’t always go off so well. But I have never gotten the impression that she was malicious to that level, especially to a friend and if you’ve seen other seasons then you know that she and Jill were very good friends before things went bad last summer.
I’m sure that whatever happened last summer that things could have been handled differently/better on both sides. But I think what’s reprehensible now is the behavior that is being displayed by Jill. She’s acting like a catty teenage and Luann has more than happily joined in on that cattiness. They have really shown their true colors this season and boy, oh boy, it ain’t pretty. Luann especially. In past seasons, I didn’t mind her that much. She was kind of annoying with her constantly correcting everyone’s etiquette but now that she’s “countless,” seems that her manners are slipping considerably.
On another note, I must say that I have been pleasantly surprised by Alex this season. Her husband still creeps me out a little but he’s a character and he’s kind of funny at times too. Also, he doesn’t seem to have as much on camera time this season which helps. But I took the time to read a few of the blogs on Bravotv.com and I must say that her blog was very impressive. She is obviously an extremely intelligent and well spoken person. She is also extremely insightful and in my opinion, pretty spot on about everyone. I think more than anyone on that show I’m going to allow her to be my bullsh*t radar. She seems to be able to keep her wits about her when it comes to all of the infighting (at least the fighting that doesn’t involve her) and weed out the truth from the lies.
