It Had to Happen Sometime
After twenty seasons on the air, it pains me to report that Law & Order has been canceled. It had to happen sometime but that doesn’t mean, it’s not still depressing.
I can’t say that I’m surprised that it got the ax. It was only a matter of time. I don’t think I’ve seen an original episode in years nor have most of the people that I know. Admit it, you mostly just watch whatever episodes TNT, USA or A&E are airing followed by an episode or two of the uber depressing SVU and the inconsistently entertaining Criminal Intent. L&O is on so many different channels that I think you can find an episode on at any given time, 24 hours a day.
Let’s be serious - it’s not really going anywhere. It will be in syndication when my grandchildren are having children. There are enough episodes and spin-offs for it to last that long…or longer. Seriously. But it does mark the end of an era and the end of a show that introduced me to the likes of Chris Noth (I was crushing on him long before he was Mr. Big), brought me the wise cracking Jerry Orbach (but after he played Baby’s dad in Dirty Dancing), and let me ogle at Benjamin Bratt’s fine behind for a couple of seasons (BTW - where the hell is he now?).
As a long time lover of Law & Order, I will bid it farewell and say that it will be dearly missed in the NBC line-up.
Next up on the chopping block, probably Law & Order: Criminal Intent. I’m still angry that Vincent D’onofrio and Katherine Erbe are gone but that’s another blog post entirely. Bitter - party of one!!!
