Oh Andre
Did anyone else see that awkward 4 minutes of video between Andre Agassi and Pete Sampras at a recent charity match? If not, here’s the gist of it. Both men were miked while playing doubles with Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal. Pete Sampras, in an uncharacteristic moment where he actually showed that he has some personality, decided to pick on his old rival a little bit by mocking his pre-serve wind-up so to speak. For those former tennis junkies like myself who spent entire nerdy summers in junior high and high school watching these two play at Wimbeldon, it was actually a pretty spot on impression. Hell, I giggled. But then when it was Agassi’s turn, he took it too far and took a personal jab at Pete’s tight hold on his wallet. Click here to check out the video. It starts out funny and turns quite painful.
Should Agassi be apologizing? Or can Pete dish it out but not take it?
Personally, I don’t think gazillionares should be too sheisty when my poor a$$ is tipping 20% regularly. BUT then again you don’t stay a gazillionare by giving it up to every Tom, Dick and Harry with a hand out. Just ask MC Hammer.
Pete probably won’t have to work another day that he doesn’t want to and still have cash in the bank while Agassi will still probably be writing books when he’s 80 to make up for all that money he lost puffin’ on a crystal meth pipe in the 90’s.
I also think that Agassi’s diss was far more personal than Sampras’. Agassi took it too far. That’s like bringin’ a gun to a knife fight, my man.
Sadly, I’m not so sure Andre would be apologizing so profusely (like he apparently is today) if his big mouth hadn’t been broadcast to the whole world.
