Oscar 2010: The Recap
So I must confess – I only watched the first hour and a half and then I went to bed. I’m sorry. The Oscars are way too long and I have a day job. I stopped watching after Ben Stiller’s hilarious intro. I swear that man will do anything for a laugh.
I must say that I was kind of dreading watching the telecast because it’s been fairly boring in the past few years, but this year’s (or at least the part that I saw) was very entertaining.
I was surprised by Neil Patrick Harris’ song and dance turn at the beginning. It had a few funny moments but altogether, I thought we could have skipped that and gone straight into the Alec Baldwin/Steve Martin intro. Though their shared monologue was a tad bit too long, they were much funnier than I expected and I laughed out loud more than a few times.
The most memorable was probably the tidbit with Tina Fey and Robert Downey Jr. That was truly hilarious. Maybe they should host next year.
I was surprised by the John Hughes tribute. I honestly thought that they were starting the In Memoriam piece and was surprised to see that they had dedicated an entire portion of the telecast to tribute him alone. Not that it wasn’t well deserved. I love many a John Hughes movie. Just a little surprised that they singled him out among the many stars that we lost this year.
Though I didn’t get to witness it, I was very glad to hear that Sandra Bullock (who looked absolutely stunning) finally had her moment in the sun and that Monique won for her performance in Precious.
I was still on the fence about which film I was rooting for to get the Best Picture nod. I didn’t get to see all 10 movies and therefore, it’s obviously quite hard to pick the truly deserving flick. But I was glad to see The Hurt Locker win for Best Picture and Kathryn Bigelow for Best Director because by all accounts, I’ve heard that it’s an excellent movie.
So kudos to all involved in the telecast.For the first time in a long time, it didn’t suck!
