Say It Isn’t So
So I read something the other day that surprised me. There were several articles floating around about how Katherine Heigl had a wardrobe malfunction onstage while accepting an award recently. Okay, so I should say 2 things surprised me the other day, the first being that there was a rash of articles about how someone NEARLY saw a boob. Yeah, that’s right. Nothing more naughty than a shoulder blade caused every entertainment outlet to fire off an article and a couple of pictures. So there I was duped into reading an article thinking that I was going to get to gossip about how poor little Katherine was exposed on stage but nevertheless, I did get something out of the experience. I got surprise #2.
Seems that during an interview after the shoulder blade baring incident, the recently brunette actress confessed that she turned to the dark side not out of sheer boredom of being blonde, but for a movie role. But I dare say not just any role. It seems that Janet Evanovich’s agent has been working overtime to turn her popular book series into a movie and that Katherine “love her or hate her” Heigl has been cast as one of my favorite literary heroine/screw-ups of all time, Stephanie Plum.
I have mixed feelings about this. Though I can’t say that I mind, Katherine Heigl’s films, I just don’t see her as the clumsy, lovable screw-up that is Stephanie Plum. Now I know what you’re thinking…that’s what acting is all about. But let’s get real, Ms. Heigl isn’t exactly Meryl Streep. In all of her movies, she plays the same character over and over again. A little vulnerable but for the most part, strong willed and extremely outspoken. I’m just not seeing it and I’m hoping that she doesn’t screw it up.
My best friend also brought up a very good point as well. If they think Katherine Heigl would make a good Stephanie, who in the world are they going to cast as Joe Morrelli and Ranger. Actually, now that you mention it, who the hell are they gonna cast as Lula? Denzel Washington in drag???
Well, no matter what happens and how badly they muck it up, what I know for sure is that they can never take away the pure pleasure that is the books. So if you haven’t read one, I invite you to buy a copy of One for the Money at your local bookstore or see if you can snag one off of the shelf at the library. You’re in for some pure and simple fun.
