The Bond with the Dragon Tattoo?
Seems that Daniel Craig will be using his off-time while the James Bond franchise hangs in limbo to star in the remake of the Girl with the Dragon Tattoo. I still haven’t seen the original Swedish version (hurry up, Netflix!) but I read the book and I hope that they jazz up the suspense and the action in the film version a la The Bourne Identity.
Now with the Bourne Identity novels, I was really taken in with the start to finish action and intrigue. I just got tired of his incessant whining from book to book. “Oh I can’t remember who I am. Woe is me!!!” By book three, I wanted to tell him to shut the $%&$ up and just get on with it already. You can kill a man with your pinky finger but you can’t stop bellyaching about your stupid amnesia???? Urghhh!!! They toned that down a lot in the movies and just got to the a$$ kicking. I appreciated that and though I liked the books, I LOVED the movies.
Though everyone I know who has read the original tome, The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, is crazy about it, I found the first 75% of it to be slow and boring and the last 25% to be much, much better. In a 600 page book, that can be really painful but based on those good reviews, I suffered through it and I’m glad I did. I’m just not sure I’ll ever read it again.
I’ve also been delaying reading the sequels, The Girl Who Played With Fire and The Girl Who Kicked the Hornet’s Nest, because I don’t know if I can deal with another long, slow build to what amounts to 20 minutes of real action, but I guess in the meantime, I can see what Daniel has to offer me in the film version. Bond will apparently be bringing it to the big screen sometime in December 2011.
