Four Days to Friday: 10/12
This is the Columbus Day edition, so it’s going to probably be a little shorter than normal.
I was out on furlough last Friday so I’m doing a little catching up on what happened myself.
Quantico had quite a scare trailing by six with a little more than eight minutes to go in the game when Warriors star Trey Blackson returned a kickoff 80 yards and Dean Krebs added a two-point conversion for the win.
The late burst helped Quantico (6-1) stave off a loss to one-win Kenston Forest. The victory also keeps Quantico in the No. 3 spot in the VISAA Division III poll.
> Woodbridge scored 14 unanswered points to secure a come-from-behind win over Hylton as well. The Bulldogs had no answer for either the Vikings’ passing game or the running attack.
Woodbridge had six different players collect positive rushing yards and Frank Buckley threw for 153 yards on 12 of 19 passing.
The Vikings are really proving they can beat you any way they want to (or have to as the case may be) Friday nights. They can run any one of 30 different players out of the backfield; Buckley can throw enough to give his opposition air sickness; they have plenty of trick plays (Collin Frazer completed another pass for a two-point conversion at the end of the third quarter) and they can pull them off (how many times have they been successful on onside kick attempts this year?)
> Dominique Terrell took the night off, but OP had no trouble with Freedom. If coach Brian Beaty was going to give his star quarterback a game off to recover, one against 0-6 Freedom was the one to do it.
The Yellow Jackets improved to 3-0 in Cardinal District play and remain in first place (they don’t play Woodbridge (2-0) until the penultimate week of the season—BOOO!) thanks to 116 yards and three touchdowns rushing from Chris Mason.
OK, that’s all from me for FDtF this week, look for Things… tomorrow where I’ll give you a heads up on what to look for this week and my meaningless power rankings. Have a great holiday if you’re off!
