Four Days to Friday: 9/28
Hey all, sorry about how late this is coming out today. I had some computer issues at the office and it slowed me down a bit.
Anyway, I think most of what happened Friday was pretty much expected. No real surprises of consequence other than Osbourn Park edging Osbourn in a thriller.
I’ll get to that game in a minute, but first I want to touch on something I heard last week during my rounds in the area which was proved quite wrong in every sense of the word.
While at Stonewall Jackson checking in on the condition of Sean Blackman and doing a Q&A with Sean Powely, I talked with some of the Raiders coaches about the upcoming game against Woodbridge (4-0). I won’t say who it was, but they didn’t think Frank Buckley, Woodbridge’s quarterback, was that great a passer.

Buckley
They felt Buckley, who threw for 1,612 yards, 16 touchdowns and only four picks in 2008, benefitted from De’Antwan Williams more than people thought and that Buckley’s numbers were inflated as a result. They wanted to make Buckley beat them, something they didn’t think he could do.
Yeah, so much for that (link).
Buckley torched the Raiders—missing starting conrners Blackman and Arlando Budd—for 242 yards and four touchdowns. In the first half. The senior averaged almost 25 yards per completion as Woodbridge rolled to a 49-17 win.
I sorta called out the Vikings receivers in last week’s FDtF and they responded. Buckley completed 53 percent of his 19 passing attempts, including a 50-yard scoring strike to Collin Frazer just before the end of the first quarter.
I don’t know what a team is going to have to do to beat Woodbridge this year, but forcing Buckley to throw to a myriad of receivers and backs is not going to be it.
> Terrell does it again: Well, Dominique Terrell is trying to one-up me. Or himself, I’m not sure which.
After accounting for more than three-quarters of his team’s offense against Hylton, Terrell led the Yellow Jackets (3-1) in a 28-26 nail-biter Friday against (non-district) rival Osbourn.
This time, he had almost 90 percent of the offensive yards in some form or fashion. The junior combined for 332 yards rushing and passing and was responsible for all three of OP’s touchdown (two with his legs [10 and 70 yards], one with his arm [54 yard toss to Travis Marion).
If you thought Buckley’s yard-per-completion average was impressive, check out Terrell’s: 34.5. He only threw the ball seven times the whole game and completed four of them.
Of course, he didn’t have to throw much becuase he was usually busy chewing up turf on his way to almost 200 yards rushing.
OP coach Brian Beaty clearly knows Terrell is going to lead this team wherever it goes this season, challenging Terrell early in the week. Oh, and Terrell again credited his O-line for his opportunities.
Let’s not forget to give credit to the Eagle defense, too, which sacked Terrell four times and held the athlete’s runs in check early in the game.
> Don’t forget, tomorrow will feature Things… for this week and feel free to comment down below on what you’re seeing and what you’d like to see here in the blog. Until Tuesday…
