Southampton at Quantico
The Raiders have won 51-20. Southampton had a chance to score again on its final offensive possession, but its quarterback elected to take a knee.
That will do it for it for this week’s game coverage.
I’m Robert Daski. Thanks for following along and we’ll see you next week.
Quantico’s most recent offensive possession reached the Southampton seven-yard line. The Warriors had fourth and goal and the ball was given to Blackson.
He was caught on the backfield, but didn not go down. He went back and threw the ball back to quarterback Chase King, who caught the ball, ran into his own man and fell down.
Southampton took over and Michael Milteer ran 75 yards for another Raiders touchdown.
The extra point was missed. Southampton leads 51-20 with 4:50 left in the fourth quarter.
Blackson has added another big play to his highlight reel. The ball was kicked short and a teammate handed it back to him. Blackson sped up the left side, got a great block from Denzel Brothers and went to the house.
Brothers added the two-point conversion and Quantico answered Southampton’s score to make it 45-20. The boy with the large Q on his chest carried the Quantico flag up and down the Quantico sideline and the cheerleaders chanted “Let’s Go Quantico”.
The cheerleaders are now doing pushups. They are doing 20 for the Warriors point total.
There is a Quantico kid standing with two friends on the bottom of the hill where the field is. He has a huge Q on his chest and the left side of his body is painted red. He has a red handband and carried the Quantico flag on his team’s first score of the night. He is now talking to his friends as the cheerleaders perform another of their cheers at the end of the third quarter. It’s 38-12 Southampton and the boy returns to his friends on the bottom of the hill.
Blackson sure looks healthy now. He picked up the ball that went right through a teammate’s legs at the 10-yard line and ran up the sideline for a touchdown.
The two-point conversion, however, failed.
It is now 38-12 Southampton.
David Bogese took the handoff and ran off right guard for a 16-yard touchdown. 5:34 is left in the third quarter. Southampton leads 38-6.
Blackson has returned for a defensive series. I can see him walking and he does not appear to be in any pain.
A Southampton run has been negated by a holding penalty. The ball is back at the Raiders 49 where it is first down and 22.
Quantico’s Blackson is being carried off the field after being injured on the kickoff return. He is hobbling and not trying to put any weight on his leg. He appears to be OK as he is getting some treatment at the trainer’s table.
Jacob Rose’s 35-yard touchdown run has given the Raiders another score. This time, the Raidres went for the extra point and made it.
Michael Milteer’s point after has Southampton ahead 31-6 with 10:56 left in the third quarter.
The second half will begin shortly. Quantico and Southampton are on their respective sidelines stretching.
Halftime was highlighted by the senior class’s cake raffle. The cakes sat on a table by the concession stand. There were chocolate, vanilla, any kind of flavor imaginable.
They were very tempting for anyone to resist. The winners of the raffle were announced, but two unclaimed cakes still remained as both teams returned to the field.
A bunch of kids are rushing to the building used for the pressbox as they look to answer the trivia question.
This one focused on who the Washington Redskins lost to to end that team’s losing streak stretching into this year?
The answer: the Detroit Lions.
The second has begun. We’ll have another update soon.
A tradition at Quantico home football games is NFL trivia questions asked throughout the game.
This one sparked the interest of Casey Gold and his friends.
The question was what team besides the Bears were a charter member of the NFL?
Gold and his friends kept guessing. They named the Ravens, the Redskins, Browns, every team you can think of.
Finally, Gold, got it right. It was the Cardinals.
He even attempted to google the answer on his Blackberry.
He and his friends walked away from the building used for the pressbox.
It is now halftime with Southampton leading 24-6.
Barnes and Will Edwards hooked up to give the Raiders their third touchdown.
It looked as if Barnes was going to get sacked. If he had held the ball another second longer, he would have drilled in the back and taken a hard hit.
Instead, he spotted a wide open Edwards in the middle of the field for a 16-yard touchdown.
Jacob Rose ran in the two-point conversion attempt and Southampton leads 24-6 with 1:10 left in the second quarter.
The Warriors have punted and the Raiders have first and 10 at their own 47.
On first down, though, John Hinkle ran 14 yards. Southampton is on the move. They now face second and six with 2:42 left until halftime.
Southampton’s running game has proven to be a lethal weapon.
The Raiders current drive was highlighted by a 37-yard run by running back David Bogese.
Marlin McClelland also ran for a first down and the Raiders just scored their second touchdown on a run. It is 16-6 Southampton as quarterback Wesley Barnes ran in the two-point conversion.
Barnes, too, has shown he can be quick.
Chase King carried the ball and was rewarded for it with a one-yard touchdown. The Warriors are on the board and the Quantico marching band plays its school fight song.
The two-point conversion, however, failed. Trey Blackson took the handoff and appeared to want to throw, but the Raiders tackled him behind the line of scrimmage.
It is 8-6 Southampton with 9:24 left in the second quarter.
Southampton leads 8-0 at the end of the first quarter. Quantico is on the move, having converted a fourth and one, thanks to a run by Denzel Brothers.
The Warriors begin the second quarter at the Raiders 23-yard line.
There are also some delicious cakes given out as a fundraiser by Quantico’s senior class.
But back to the action, Blackson just rushed off the right side for a three-yard gain.
With a timeout on the field, there seems to be decent support for both teams. The Quantico cheerleaders are standing at the bottom of the hill, supporting the team and the Southampton cheerleaders are cheering their team to victory on the other side. There are some Southampton supporters on the Raiders’ side. A few students and parents are here to support Quantico.
The concession stand is open and there is a television cameraman standing on the sideline filming the game.
Quantico is moving the ball, but is yet to break a big play.
Still 8-0 Southampton with less than three minutes left in the first quarter.
Southampton Academy has scored first. A 40-yard catch by Jacob Rose has set up a touchdown run by David Bogese.
The Raiders lead 8-0 thanks to Rose’s reception on a two-point conversion.
Good evening and welcome again to insidenova.com’s coverage of area high school football.

The game is scoreless so far with just over seven minutes left in the first half.
