GOP Convention off to the right start

Yesterday’s Convention Session was mostly organizing activities.  I was particularly happy that we approved our platform.  You can find it at http://www.gop.com/pdf/PlatformFINAL_WithCover.pdf and at 55 pages, it’s easy to read.  I was the Co-Chair of the National Security Sub-Committee.  I think this is a platform that people can embrace and clearly understand.  I would encourage all of you to read it.  Indeed, compare it to the Democrats.

On achieving Energy independence, the GOP wants to drill here, drill now and invest in renewable sources of energy.  The Democrat Platform says they want renewables too but accepts the status quo on exploration refusing to drill here at home.

On the economy, the GOP platform calls for lower taxes, reasonable regulation, and smaller, smarter government.  The Democrat Platform calls for higher taxes on families and small businesses.

On National Security, the GOP Platform calls for strengthened armed forces, peace with honor in Iraq, defeating terrorism, and security for borders to halt illegal crossings. Democrats had little to say here.

And on reform, we call for an immediate moratorium on all “earmark” spending, but the Democrats failed to mention a word about this waste.

More tomorrow as we move toward nominating our candidates.
