I spoke too soon. The election is over

And it’s over. Major news outlets are calling the race for Barack Obama. It’s all over. The new president of the United States will be a Democrat. The first black president of the United States has been elected.

Many will, no doubt, see this as a progressive achievement for the United States, and indeed it is. Martin Luther King’s dream that one day “content of character” would mean more than color, has become a reality. I think you would be hard-pressed to make the argument that Barack Obama was elected simply because he is black.

Though I did not vote for him, I’m excited to see what he does. I’m excited to see if Obama makes good on his promise of change and continues his message of hope. I will remain optimistic and skeptical until the end.

I await the Obama presidency.
