Time discrepancy

When I looked at the blog online, it looks like it is registering the time as being an hour later than it actually is. As I am writing this entry, it is 7:33 p.m. Since I make references to time in my posts, I thought I would let my readers know in case there is any confusion.

We received a comment on our Web site, asking how it was possible that the Warner/Gilmore race could have already been called when the polls just closed pretty recently. Well, the race has not officially been called, the Associated Press is just projecting that Warner will be the winner. But given the fact that Warner has been pretty much blowing Gilmore away in all previous polls, it is not surprising that AP would be able to ascertain the winner this early.

Now, I did just get finished decrying the use of polls in elections, so this probably sounds a little hypocritical. But regardless of your political leanings, the cards have appeared to be stacked against Gilmore from the start.

One indication of this, which, to me, seemed pretty telling, was the fact that John Warner did not even endorse Gilmore to be his replacement. There was some media speculation that John Warner was actually going to endorse Mark Warner, but as far as I know, that never happened. But just the fact that that seemed plausible is quite a statement about the Gilmore/Warner race. Warner seemed destined to win.

By the way, John Warner and Mark Warner are not related. There is no nepotism involved here.
