In Culpeper County, raising beef, dairy cattle and crops are the most common agricultural activities. Small farmers are also involved in higher-intensity uses of their land, such as the production of Christmas trees, firewood, wine grapes, fruits, greenhouses and turf.

The Farmers Co-Op provides products and services to its agricultural producer members, as well as to the general public. Products and supplies are available for farm, crop and livestock production, as well as for homes and gardens. The co-op will sample hay, soil and silage. It sells livestock feeds, fertilizers, hardware, lawn and garden supplies, farm equipment and paint.

CMR Farm Show
The Culpeper-Madison-Rappahannock Farm Show is held yearly in the summer at Culpeper Agricultural Enterprises on U.S. 29 just south of the town of Culpeper.

Culpeper Agricultural Enterprises
U.S. 29, two miles south of Culpeper
Hosts feeder cattle sales every spring and fall; fat cattle sales the first and third Tuesday of each month; bull sales in November and December; cow sales in November and April; and longhorn cattle sales in May. The stockholder-owned corporation sells produce every day. Land purchased in the 1950s by farmers wanting a full-time location for state-graded feeder cattle sales and 4-H events.

Culpeper Farmers Market
Corner of East Davis and Commerce streets. Open from 7:30 a.m. to noon each Saturday from late April through October in the Depot district. The market offers fresh produce, baked goods, jams, jellies, crafts and other items such as live poultry, rabbits, cut flowers and hanging baskets.

Culpeper Soil & Water
Conservation District (CSWCD)

The CSWCD serves Culpeper and four other counties by providing landowners with a wide range of programs to encourage community participation in conserving soil, water and related natural resources. The district provides advice on best management practices and manages funds distributed to landowners engaged in various conservation programs.

Natural Resources Conservation Service

The federal agency that provides technical assistance in solving problems related to soil and water conservation. Assists other federal agencies and the Culpeper Soil and Water conservation District in economic relief efforts for farmers.

Virginia Cooperative Extension, Culpeper Unit

Provides assistance to county residents in the areas of 4-H, farm management, agriculture, family and consumer services and master gardeners. Operates as a federal, state and local agency. An extension of the state university system (Virginia Tech and Virginia State University).

Rural Development Agency

Operates under the USDA and makes loans available to families with low to moderate incomes. Also administers programs that provide loans to those who cannot obtain commercial credit.

Virginia Department of Forestry
Provides forest management advice and technical services, assists with planning and implementation of management practices and protects privately owned, state-owned and municipality-owned forest land from destruction. The department has personnel and equipment to respond to forest fires. Staff will assist landowners with all aspects of reforestation and has rental equipment.

Virginia Department of
Game and Inland Fisheries

Enforces all hunting, fishing and game regulations. Game wardens may be reached by calling the Culpeper County Sheriff's Office at 727-3400.
